I read about a speech given by Mark Carney, the Governor of the Bank of England to Lloyd’s of London. It’s readily available at the Bank of England website. It was given on September 29th, 2015. During the speech, Mr. Carney evoked the concept of the “Tragedy of the Horizon”. By that he meant that the most severe financial implications of climate change will be borne by future players, who will, then, have to incur the costs created by the inaction of current players. It’s worth the time to read the speech and, hopefully, heed Mr. Carney’s words and recognize the need to act. He unequivocally makes the point that climate change is a critical business issue with profound kicking the ball down the road consequences of inaction.
